The 84th Legislature Convenes by Texas State Rep. Larry Phillips
As we have discussed over the last few weeks, the 84th Legislative Session began on January 13th at noon. The House members were administered the oath of office by Nandita Berry, the current Secretary of State. The members then elected Joe Straus to a fourth term as Speaker.

Preparations for the 84th Legislature  by Texas State Rep. Larry Phillips
The next legislative session of the Texas Legislature will begin this Tuesday, January 13, 2015. The legislature meets in regular sessions every two years, beginning at noon on the second Tuesday of odd numbered years. For the first time in many years, there will be new leadership at the state-wide level; we have a new governor, lt. governor, comptroller, attorney general, agriculture commissioner, and land commissioner.
