SHERMAN, TEXAS-Dr. Marjorie Hass, president of Austin College, has been elected to the eight-member Executive Committee of the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) Board of Directors. She will serve through December 2015 as vice chair for resource development. The Resource Development Committee provides board leadership for the Council's financial resource development needs. The vice chair for resource development of the Executive Committee also serves as vice chair for resource development of the Board and of the CIC.

Dr. Hass has been a member of the CIC Board of Directors since January 2012.

The elections were held during a meeting of the Board of Directors at CIC's 2014 Presidents Institute in Marco Island, Florida, earlier this year.

CIC is the only national organization today that focuses solely on providing services and a broad range of initiatives directly to independent colleges and universities to help improve the quality of education and strengthen institutional resources.

"The Council is pleased to have Dr. Hass as a member of the Board's Executive Committee," said CIC President Richard Ekman. "CIC continues to implement many exciting new programs, projects, and services, and needs a strong Executive Committee to oversee their planning and execution. I am certain that Dr. Hass will serve the Council admirably, and look forward to working with her."

The CIC Executive Committee consists of eight officers: chair; vice chairs for programs, resource development, public information, investment, and membership; treasurer; and past chair. These offices have full voting privileges and are the senior officers of the Council.

The Council of Independent Colleges is an association of 645 nonprofit independent colleges and universities and more than 90 higher education organizations that has worked since 1956 to support college and university leadership, advance institutional excellence, and enhance public understanding of private higher education's contributions to society. The Council is headquartered in Washington, D.C. For more information, visit www.cic.edu.

Founded in 1849, the College is the oldest institution of higher education in Texas operating under original name and charter.
