SHERMAN, TEXAS-The annual Austin College/ACCares Spring AIDS Quilt program will be held Thursday, April 10, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Living Room of the Robert J. and Mary Wright Campus Center. Local AIDS quilts will be on display. The program is free and open to the public. For information, contact Roger Platizky, Austin College professor of English and coordinator, at (903) 813-2426.

The 4:30 program will include poetry readings, prayers in various languages, and discussions about some of the issues surrounding AIDS, as well as tributes and remembrances of those who have died from the disease.

Musical entertainment will be provided from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Pouch Club of the Wright Campus Center.

Raffle ticket sales and donations received at this annual event support the Simbaradenga Newstart Children's Home AIDS Orphanage in Zimbabwe, Africa. ACCARES sponsors this orphanage with the Callie Clinic of Sherman.

ACCares is an Austin College organization formed to make members of the college community aware of the impact of AIDS/HIV on their lives and others in the community. The group encourages students to be educated and compassionate about AIDS/HIV.

Austin College, a private national liberal arts college located north of Dallas in Sherman, Texas, has earned an excellent reputation for academic rigor, international study, pre-professional preparation, leadership development, and hands-on, adventurous learning opportunities. One of 40 schools profiled in Loren Pope's influential book Colleges That Change Lives, Austin College boasts a welcoming community that embraces diversity and individuality, with more than 36 percent of students representing ethnic minorities. A residential student body of 1,250 students and a faculty of more than 100 allow a 12:1 student-faculty ratio and personalized attention. The College is related by covenant to the Presbyterian Church (USA) and cultivates an inclusive atmosphere that supports students' faith journeys regardless of religious tradition. Founded in 1849, the College is the oldest institution of higher education in Texas operating under original name and charter.
