SHERMAN, TEXAS-Roger Platizky, Austin College professor of English, will speak on campus Wednesday, March 6, at 4:30 p.m. in Wright Campus Center, Room 231, in a presentation on faculty research and pedagogy hosted by the College's Johnson Center for Faculty Development and Excellence in Teaching. The presentation "Humanizing Medicine/Medicalizing the Humanities" is free and open to the public.

Platizky said the talk will be based on cross-disciplinary research and team-teaching he has done in literature and medicine.
Platizky has been a member of the Austin College faculty since 1988. Specializing in Victorian literature, he regularly teaches courses in expository and creative writing, literature and medicine, gender studies, Victorian literature, and British modernism. He has received various honors for his work, including the Austin College Excellence in Teaching Award.

A Phi Beta Kappa member, Platizky earned his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees at Rutgers University.

The Robert and Joyce Johnson Center for Faculty Development and Excellence in Teaching, is directed by Bernice Melvin, Margaret Root Brown Chair of Foreign Languages and Literatures and professor of French. Within the mission of the center is the encouragement of 'bold exploration of intellectual frontiers" and "fostering lively intellectual dialogue within and across academic disciplines."

Two additional lectures will be presented by the Johnson Center this spring, featuring John Richardson, associate professor of chemistry, on Tuesday, March 26, and Hunt Tooley, professor of history, on Wednesday, April 10.
A number of other Johnson Center programs are offered to faculty, students, and the local community throughout the academic year.
