The Texoma Office of the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Dallas Chapter is delighted to announce the Caregiver Support Group sponsored by Honey Grove Nursing Center has expanded to include monthly meetings and is open to the general public. Honey Grove Director of Social Work Angie Andres, LBSW has undergone specialized training to facilitate the group and will be assisted by Association Manager of Family Services, Dianna Niemann-Harris.

"I am excited Angie will be leading the monthly meetings!" Niemann-Harris said, "Her enthusiasm and desire to enable Caregivers to support one another make her a natural to lead this group."

The support group is absolutely free and open to the public. The goal of the group is to provide opportunity for family, friends, caregivers and others to meet regularly for mutual emotional support and to exchange coping skills with one another in matters relating to Alzheimer's disease and related types of dementia.

The group meets the 4th Wednesday of each month at 10 am in Honey Grove Nursing Center, 1303 Main Street East, Honey Grove, TX. The next meeting of this monthly group is Wednesday, July 22, 2009. Booklets, pamphlets, books, videos and other resources will be available to the group through the Alzheimer's Association. Speakers on particular topics will be arranged intermittently according to the needs and wishes of those who participate in this support group opportunity. In addition to this group in Honey Grove, the Association has monthly Support Groups in Bonham, Paris, Collinsville, Denison and Whitesboro.

The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research. The mission of the organization is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

For more information support groups, literature about Alzheimer's disease, information on available services for persons with dementia or to schedule a speaker, please contact Dianna.Niemann-Harris@alz.org or call 903-416-0786.
