SHERMAN, TEXAS-Austin College senior Sara Alary of Little Elm, Texas, will present a solo vocal recital April 20 at 3 p.m. in Wynne Chapel on the campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Sara, completing a major in music and a minor in religious studies, is the daughter of Robin and Vern Alary. A soprano, Sara's senior recital will include a variety of pieces from different time periods, including a pair of Schubert lieder, a selection of Italian art songs by Donaudy, and two pieces by Mary Howe, a 20th- century composer. She also will present three arias: one from Puccini's La bohème, another from Offenbach's Les Contes D'Hoffmann, and a third from Menotti's The Old Maid and the Thief.
Sara has been studying voice for ten years and is a member of the Austin College A Cappella Choir and a member of Consort, the College's vocal jazz ensemble. "What I most enjoy about music and specifically performance is the opportunity to share it with others," she said. "For me, the ideal performance is one where the audience not only enjoys listening but is also somehow moved by the performance."
Austin College is a leading national independent liberal arts college located north of Dallas in Sherman, Texas. Founded in 1849, making it the oldest institution of higher education in Texas operating under original charter and name, the College is related by covenant to the Presbyterian Church (USA). Recognized nationally for academic excellence in the areas of international education, pre-professional training, and leadership studies, Austin College is one of 40 schools profiled in Loren Pope's influential book Colleges That Change Lives.
